One Avengers: Endgame Leak Was Planted By Marvel, Confirms Iman Vellani

Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani confirms that Marvel Studios threw fans off the trail by releasing a fake Avengers: Endgame leak.

Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani confirms that Marvel released a fake leak from the set of Avengers: Endgame. Marvel Studios is zealous about protecting its movies from spoiler leaks at all times. But that went double in the months leading up to the release of 2019’s blockbuster fourth Avengers movie.

Avengers: Endgame was of course one of the most highly-anticipated movies of all-time leading up to its late-December 2019 drop. This is easy to understand given the events of its predecessor Avengers: Infinity War, which famously saw Thanos blipping a number of major characters including Black Panther and Spider-Man out of existence with a snap of his fingers, leaving their fates up in the air. The mystery of how all this would be resolved in Endgame naturally led fans to an even more feverish level of theorizing than normal. And all that fan frenzy of course led Marvel to be even more vigilant than normal in protecting the movie’s precious secrets.

Some secrets about Avengers: Endgame of course leaked out despite Marvel’s high level of security. But at least one “leak” from the movie is now confirmed to have been a deliberate misdirect perpetrated by the studio to throw fans off the trail. During her recent Reddit AMA, Ms. Marvel star Vellani casually mentioned an infamous Endgame set photo showing the apparent return of Tony Stark’s BARF technology (first introduced in Captain America: Civil War and later revealed in Spider-Man: Far From Home to have been invented by Mysterio), and let it drop that this photo (which can be seen in the space below) was in fact disinformation. She said (via Games Radar):

Marvel’s security team may indeed now be contacting Vellani for leaking information about their previous leak. Of course it’s no surprise to learn from Vellani that Marvel is willing to resort to flat-out subterfuge when it comes to protecting their secrets. That became more evident than ever last year when Spider-Man: No Way Home star Andrew Garfield literally lied in interviews about his involvement in the movie, later admitting that he rather enjoyed the cat-and-mouse game. It was also once claimed by Kevin Smith that Marvel has a full-on “secret police” whose job is to root out leakers and occasionally engage in putting out false information to throw fans off the trail. The emotional effect of all this secrecy has not been lost on MCU stars either. As just one example, Secret Invasion star Emilia Clarke recently admitted that she’s scared to let any spoilers drop and joked that she believes there’s an undercover Marvel security agent staking out her house.

Some of this of course falls under the heading of good fun concerning movies that are ultimately just pieces of entertainment. But at the same time, there’s an undeniable cloak-and-dagger quality to the idea of Marvel security engaging in literal disinformation, that edges into a somewhat sinister area. Given the financial stakes involved with movies like Avengers: Endgame and every other MCU project, it’s of course no shock that Marvel would resort to such methods in protecting their secrets. Now thanks to Vellani’s leak, fans know that they should probably think twice before believing in the authenticity of any further information that makes its way out from Marvel productions.
